 These skeleton cable drums were designed in conjunction with BBC Outside Broadcast for use with SMPTE 311 HDTV fibre optic camera cable assemblies. A third flange has been added to a standard drum, allowing 5 metres of cable from the centre of the main drum to be wound on, affording protection while the main length of fibre is run out. Once the cable is deployed, the CCU end of the fibre assembly can be unwound and plugged into the tailgate termination panel. Long fibre cables can therefore be used, minimising interconnections, without the risk of damaging any excess cable. |
