There is some misunderstanding in the industry regarding the Colour Temperature (CT) of fluorescent lamps used in script lights. The notional CT of "Northlight" is 6,500° Kelvin, which would obviously be the preferred CT for a script light tube. Unfortunately this is not the end of the story.
The second parameter that needs to be taken into account is the Colour Rendering Index (CRI). This is a measure of the light quality that allows the eye to resolve slight differences in colour. A high CRI gives good resolution and vice-versa. More information is shown in Fig. 2 below.
The third parameter is cost. The nearer a tube gets to a CT of 6,500°K or a CRI of 100%, the more expensive it is. This is because the tubes need to be hand selected. Some tubes being supplied may be the correct CT but they will have a low CRI which could cause problems in critical applications.
The tubes supplied by Bryant Broadcast have a CT of 6,000°K and a CRI of 80% - 90% (CRI group 1B), which we feel is a good compromise between the three parameters.
